Our long portfolio tends to be concentrated in 15-20 high conviction ideas. Our short portfolio tends to be more diversified and includes hedges for our long positions and thesis-driven shorts which are typically struggling business in declining industries.

Portfolio Manager & Managing Partner
David Atterbury is the Portfolio Manager and Managing Partner of Whetstone Capital Advisors, LLC. Before forming Whetstone, David worked for DS Advisors and the 1818 Partners Fund at Brown Brothers Harriman. Prior to Brown Brothers Harriman, David served as a principal at Return Holdings, an Associate at Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp and an analyst at Merrill Lynch. David received a BA degree in History from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Columbia University, where he participated in the value investing curriculum at the Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing.
Thomas McGannon, CFA is a Founding Partner at Whetstone with a passion for robust proprietary research. Before joining Whetstone, Mr. McGannon served as an Investment Analyst with the Midland Family Office, Integra Realty Resources and Longview Village Development. Thomas graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University with BA degrees in both Finance and Theology; he is also a CFA Charterholder.
Andrew Carlson is a key member of the investment team at Whetstone. Before joining Whetstone in 2011, Andrew previously worked for Financial Dynamics and the Midland Family Office. Andrew received his BA degree in History from DePaul University and his MBA from the University of Kansas.

Kevin Barb serves as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer at Whetstone Capital Advisors. In this role, he is responsible for all of the non-investment aspects of the firm. Prior to joining Whetstone, Kevin held roles in finance, strategy and commodity marketing at Koch Fertilizer, LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc.). Kevin graduated summa cum laude from the University of Missouri – Kansas City with a BBA degree (Finance emphasis) and minor in Economics.
